Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone (Bay City, Michigan, 16 agosto 1958) è una cantante, attrice e produttrice discografica statunitense, molto popolare sin dagli anni ottanta.
Con oltre 280 milioni di dischi venduti, è ritenuta l'artista femminile di maggior successo nella storia della musica. È stata ed è tuttora in grado di influenzare (ma anche di creare) le nuove tendenze musicali, tanto da essere soprannominata la "Regina del Pop". Inoltre, i suoi innovativi quanto provocatori video musicali, la rendono l'artista più quotata su MTV.
Alla carriera di cantante Madonna ha affiancato quella nel cinema, prendendo parte a diversi film e quella del teatro. Nel 1992 Madonna ha fondato la casa di produzione Maverick Records, con cui ha prodotto i lavori di artisti quali Alanis Morissette, Michelle Branch, e i Deftones. Nel 2003 ha anche scritto una collana di libri per bambini.
Molti ritengono erroneamente che il nome "Madonna" sia un nome d'arte scelto dalla cantante per provocazione: in realtà Madonna fa parte del suo nome di battesimo ed era anche il nome di sua madre.
